I’ve decided that when I’m old, I’m going to wear overalls and a big straw hat. Just in case you were wondering. Recently, when I made this proclamation, my dear husband decided to humor me. Guess what I got for my birthday?
That’s right. A brand-spankin’-new pair of overalls.
I’m still not sure if he was trying to make my dreams come true, or calling me old. I’ve chosen to believe the former.
Call me strange, if you like. I prefer the word “eccentric.” Or even, “practical.” You don’t get much more practical than a pair of overalls.
After all, they’ve lasted a loooong time. Designed in the late 1700’s, they were frequently used in the 1800’s as work gear. I’ll bet God might have sported a pair while He created the heavens and earth.
The sturdy fabric protects your other clothes. They’re comfortable. Not only that, but just think of all the pockets! There’s a place for a hammer, a screwdriver, and even nails and screws. So, if I ever decide I want to carry those things around with me, I’m good to go.
And they’re cute!
Okay, so my sense of style lacks something to be desired. I’m a writer, not a fashion diva.
You know, a strong relationship with God is kind of like a good pair of overalls. When we let Him cover us, He protects us. Plus, He’ll carry all our burdens. When we stay close to Him, He gives us peace and joy which, of course, puts a smile on our faces and makes us more attractive. We don’t have to worry about Him wearing out or going out of style. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords is here to stay. He loves us. And He wants to cover us.
